Subject: Tomorrow's Walk to School Day Event

Good Afternoon Everyone,

As a reminder, tomorrow, Wednesday, October 4th is our Walk To School Day. We are very excited to see how this event will turn out. VMA has been contacted and they are scheduled take pictures and advertise the event afterwards. If we can all meet at the basketball courts tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m. to greet the students as they arrive, you can tell your volunteers to meet here too. Please remember to bring the banners that are currently hanging outside your campuses so you can hold them as you lead your students on the walk. There will be a few district office volunteers that are participating with the school sites as well.

Thank you all for participating in this city sponsored event. Please contact me if you have any questions before tomorrow.

Subject: Walk To School Day Waivers & Banners

Good Morning Walk To School Day Participants,

The City of Lynwood will be hanging the attached banners at your school sites on Monday, September 25th to advertise the event.

Additionally, all participants must have completed a waiver to participate in the walk.

I am recommending that students turn in the waiver at the registration table the day of the event this way the waiver does not get lost if they turn it in to the school sites before the event.

We can discuss this on Monday during our planning meeting.

Thank you and have a great day!

Subject: Walk-to-School Event -- October 4, 2017

Good Afternoon Mr. Schmidt, Mr. Marquez, Ms. Clay, Dr. Pimienta and Ms. Verduzco,

The City of Lynwood is actively working on making Lynwood a healthy and safe city through the implementation of various activities that take place throughout the year. This year, the City of Lynwood will launch its first "Walk to School" event on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 which connects to International Walk to School Day. Your school (Wilson Elementary, Hosler Middle, Marshall Elementary, Cesar Chavez Middle, and Roosevelt Elementary) has been selected to participate in this city sponsored event due to the street routes for the event. The district has agreed to support this event and your school's participation is necessary. Again, the purpose of this event is to enable children to incorporate the regular physical activity they need each day while also forming healthy habits that can last a lifetime.

There will be a planning meeting on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in room 201 led by the City of Lynwood representative to discuss the logistics and participation requirements of the event. For this meeting, the event coordinators are requesting that the school principal or site administrator, and PTA president or an active parent, and a person that can lead the event from the school site attend.

Please call Dr. Maribel Martinez at (310) 886-1458 before August 29th if you would like to further discuss this event before the August 29th planning meeting.

Thank You,

Kavin Dotson, Ed.D.
